Adıyaman University Faculty of Medicine was established under the Presidency of Adıyaman University with Adiyaman University Senate's decision dated 09/21/2006 and numbered 01-02, Higher Education Council's decision dated 12/06/2006 and numbered 6881, Ministry of Education's decision dated 31/05/2007 and numbered 13184 and finally with the decision of the Council of Ministers on 07/09/2007.
Adıyaman University Faculty of Medicine was established to educate health workers who will be sensitive to the realities of Turkey as well as the World, be culturally equipped, be continually learning and searching, and finally, be able to produce. The education and training process in our Faculty is completed in a total of 6-year periods (divided in three phases: 3 + 2 + 1 years). In this education process, an integrated, community-based, and student-centered education is targeted. The Faculty provides an elite training program to equip the graduates with competencies expected from a high-class graduate of a medical school besides the fundamental roles demanded by the society (physician, health advocate, scientist, leader, and team member). In this training program, contemporary education methods, practical assessment, and evaluation methods, as well as advanced technology, are utilized. The priority of Adiyaman University and our Faculty is to ensure that the social, cultural, psychological, academic, and career counseling systems are regularly updated and improved in line with the encountered challenges. Also, increasing the diversity and studies of student communities are highly encouraged. Also, seminars and conferences are regularly organized with the participation of nationally and internationally experienced and well-equipped speakers. Besides, health and social responsibility projects are produced in cooperation with non-governmental organizations. The Faculty has a management approach that is open to communication with the participation of stakeholders such as students, trainees, and employees. Our feedback mechanisms are actively operated. We work as an institution that guarantees to work with international ethical guidelines in both basic science (3 years) and clinical science (2 + 1 year) research.
Our Faculty offers undergraduate and graduate education that involves medical specialty and research doctorate training.
Each academic year is defined as "a term" in our education system (six terms in total). Each term is composed of two semesters. For each semester, education schedules are organized in the first week of the academic year (term) by the term coordinators, where students are provided with information regarding the principles of education, training, and practice. The terms I, II, and III are defined as "preclinical term." The terms IV and V are defined as "Clinical terms." The final year is the internship period. There are multidisciplinary modules in term I, II, and III. In these modules, theoretical and applied necessary laboratory information of the medical profession is given to the students. Terms IV and V are the clinical years that include theoretical and practical hospital-centered applications. In every branch of medicine, bedside applications are encouraged along with theoretical concepts. Term VI prepares students for professional life. Its duration is 12 months. Students who complete our Faculty in the health sector in Turkey (family physician or as an emergency physician) will graduate with competence and equipment to work and receive the title of doctor.
The Ministry of Health of Turkey Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital, which is affiliated with our Faculty, provides governmental health services per the needs of the society. We have an experienced and equipped staff created in line with the requirements. The necessary infrastructure is provided for the quality and efficient delivery of hospital services, and projects for the development of the infrastructure are supported. Medical specialty training is carried out with a central examination in our country. Depending on the department chosen at the Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital, specialist students who are placed as a result of the intermediate examination graduate by taking 4 or 5 years of theoretical and applied clinical training and receiving the title of a specialist doctor.
Our graduates of physicians and specialists who are equipped with basic, current, and comprehensive information, including basic sciences, clinical sciences, behavioral sciences, and their relations with each other, serve humanity in our country and the world in the field of health.
